Disney+ Vs. Netflix

Finally, Disney+ is coming to South Africa and a few other African countries. Disney+ is the streaming home of Walt Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more.

In January 2022, the Walt Disney Company announced its expansion plan to 42 new countries, six of which are Morocco, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, and South Africa.

Its entry into South Africa marked the service’s first access into the African continent, joining Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Showmax, which are accessible globally.

Subscribers in South Africa will now be able to access over 2000 films, series, and documentaries available on the streaming service for a standard price of R119 per month or R1190 for an annual subscription.

Also, users will be allowed to stream concurrently on four devices and unlimited access downloads across ten devices.

Only a day into its launch on the 19th of May, Disney+ has been tainted by a glitch that stopped videos from loading. Surprisingly, users took to Twitter to express their displeasure.

Netflix appears to be the only streaming service with similar subscriptive plans as Disney+ — Netflix’s Premium plan, which costs R199 and allows Ultra HD streaming on up to 4 devices.

Also, Amazon Prime is a more expensive option, with its subscription plan ranging from R136/month and having to either buy or rent movies after paying the monthly subscription.
