Google Releases New Products and Services

On the 11th and 12th of May, Google held its annual developer conference, where it unveiled a ton of new products and services.

The tech giant announced three new smartphones, its first smartwatch, pixel buds pro, an AR-subtitle glasses, and plans to release a new tablet next year.

In addition, Google announced updates to several of its most popular tools, including Maps, Google Translate, and its core search product.

Here’s a list of the Products and Services Showcased

New Pixel Watch

After years of rumors, Google is finally launching its first in-house watch. The Pixel smartwatch is 4G-compatible and can only be paired with Android devices. It features a fancy twisting band mechanism, a round display, and integration with Fitbit.

Google also added that the Pixel Watch would be fully launched by the 4th quarter of 2022.

Google Pixel 6a, 7 and 7Pro

Google revealed its new mid-tier phone, the Pixel 6A. It also announced its next flagship phone, the Pixel 7 with two rear cameras and 7Pro with a triple rear camera system.

Google Pixel Buds Pro

Google announced the release of its new pixel buds pro, which will be up for pre-order on July 21, the same day as the Pixel 6a. The Pixel buds pro will go for $200 and have ANC (active noise cancellation).

Translation and AR glasses

Google teased with its new AR glasses, which it claimed would be capable of real-time translation during a conversation. Sadly, the tech giant revealed no further information on the release dates, availability, and pricing.

Tensor-Powered Tablet for 2023

As part of the hardware portion of the I/O keynote, Google shared its plans to release a new Tensor-powered tablet for next year.

Updated Search and Maps

Google Map has been the most popular in Africa for a while, helping people navigate cities and rural areas. Now, Google Maps is getting a much-appreciated update that features a multi-search that allows users to view cities on the map more immersively.

The new immersive view combines aerial imagery and street view to offer a digital model of our world and a new way to explore cities, key landmarks, restaurants, and places of interest.

Furthermore, Maps now offers to find the most fuel-efficient route to get there with eco-friendly routing and offers users the ability to access Google Maps Live View in other third-party apps with the ARCore Geospatial API.

Google Virtual Cards

This summer, Google is launching virtual credit cards to protect its user’s financial information while shopping online. This service generates a virtual card number that users can autofill instead of their actual card information on mobile android devices or in Google’s Chrome browser, concealing their actual credit card details from the sites they’re shopping on.

These virtual cards though used for one-time purchases, users will be able to use these cards for periodic subscriptions.

However, only users in the USA with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Capital One credit cards can enjoy this service.

Google Translate

Google Translate has added support for 24 different languages, bringing the number of languages the product supports to 133. About 10 of these new languages are spoken in Ghana, Togo, Sierra Leone, Mali, South Africa, Eritrea, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Namibia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
