What Is Wi-Fi 6E?

Wi-Fi is a wireless communication device that uses radio frequency (RF) signals to communicate with each other. These radio waves are used in radio and TV broadcasting, satellite communication, and aeronautical and space communication.

There are limited Wi-Fi channels that are regulated by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), and they are responsible for regulating the entire frequency spectrum.

Wi-Fi 6E is the latest generation of Wi-Fi, but before we talk about it, let’s talk about how Wi-Fi has evolved.

The first generation of Wi-Fi operated on a frequency of 2.4GHz and a spectrum of 72 MHz, which could accommodate three users at most at a time.

The second generation of Wi-Fi operated at a frequency of over 5GHz and a spectrum of 685 MHz, giving it the ability to accommodate more users without any fear of network traffic.

The third and present generation of Wi-Fi operates on a frequency of 6GHz and a spectrum of 1200 MHz, which makes doing high-resolution files fast.

So basically, Wi-Fi 6e is an extension of Wi-Fi 6 that operates on a 6GHz frequency and uses a bunch of technologies to offer secure, less overlapping channels and no available blocks of spectrum.

A Wi-Fi 6E can support many Wi-Fi 6E devices, operating with lower latency and higher data rates. It expands the horizons of user connectivity and enables businesses and organizations to go above their boundaries.

It enables new technologies such as virtual reality streaming and watching videos in 4K, telepresence by offering speed in a Gigabyte range, has improved performance, provides a higher capacity, and supports wider channels compared to any other Wi-Fi version.

There are some limitations to this Wi-Fi version, such as the fact that it does not cover more than 5 feet of space. Only new devices that support Wi-Fi 6E can be connected to this network, so for you to be able to access this network, you will need to get new networking devices, e.g., routers that support Wi-Fi 6E.

An interesting fact to note is that the Samsung S21 Ultra is the world’s first Wi-Fi 6E phone.
