Pangeos: Saudi Arabia’s New Floating City

Everyone has heard of yachts and super-yachts, but have you heard of tera-yachts? Pangeos is a turtle-shaped terayacht currently under construction in Saudi Arabia. This luxury project was designed by the Italian design studio Lazzarini.

According to Lazzarini, Pangeos is named after the supercontinent Pangea which existed about 200 million to 335 million years ago. Though designed in Saudi Arabia, Pangeos will sail around the world non-stop, as it will be equipped with an endless supply of green energy solutions.

Upon completion, Pangeos will become the world’s largest floating structure and It will function as a floating city, using waves from the ocean and the roof’s solar panels to power its engine.

With 1,800 feet in length (550 meters) and 2000 feet in width ( 610 meters), there will be enough space for hotels, shopping centers, parks, events and more. Lazzarini asserts that Pangeos will accommodate about 60,000 guests plus an unspecified number of staff and crew members.

On each side of its wing, there would be 19 villas and 69 apartments. On the rooftop shell, 72 terraces will be available; some will have sea views, while others will overlook the vessel’s central port area.

Powered by Nine 16,800 horsepower HTS engines, the Pangeos is predicted to have a top speed of five knots (5.7 miles per hour/9.2 kilometers per hour).

Also, guests wanting to travel from the floating city to other locations will have the option to either use an aircraft or a smaller sea vessel as a port will be constructed on board to house other boats and, the “upper shell area” will grant landing and take-off access to flying vehicles.

Lazzarini says that an $8 billion investment is required for Pangeos to become a reality in 8 years, and as a part strategy for raising funds, an NFT crowdfunding initiative where donors can pay with cryptocurrency for a virtual space on Pangeos within the metaverse has been created.

Currently, the world’s biggest yacht is the German-built Azzam at 180.61 meters (595.55 feet) long, and Pangeos promises to be way bigger. Do you see this becoming a reality, or do you consider it a pipe dream?
