Amazon Is Coming To Nigeria

Amazon is one of the biggest e-commerce, logistics, and technology companies, with millions of physical and digital products to offer.

This global tech giant that is owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos announced that it will be launching and is set to begin operations in Lagos, Nigeria, by April 2023.

This will be a huge technological advancement for the nation of Nigeria and the continent in general. Its launch will bring many opportunities and threats to the African labor and business markets. Let’s talk about that.

Amazon will be looking to recruit workers from different fields that will aid in the smooth running of the company. Associate Solutions Architect, Senior Solutions Architect, Senior Partner Sales Manager, Enterprise Account Manager, Senior Developer Advocate, and other positions are already available.

This is an excellent opportunity for professionals in this field as it will help to eradicate unemployment in the country.

Amazon ranks fourth on Forbes’ best employers list and is known for treating its employees well. The least amount an employee of Amazon earns is $12 per hour, and workers have access to covered health insurance and other benefits.

Another great turnaround that Amazon will cause in the fields of business and logistics will be that retailers can now sell their products on one of the biggest e-commerce platforms in the world. That will increase customer reach and also sales. African customers also have the assurance that their orders will begin to reach them in less time than before because there is a local branch of the company now located in Africa. All of these will directly or indirectly help to boost the Nigerian economy.

On the other hand, Amazon’s launch will mean bad news for other e-commerce and logistics companies like Jumia and Konga because more competition is coming to the market, so they have to buckle up and think of strategies that will help them not lose customers and sales.

What’s your take on this Amazon launch and all the opportunities that this Fortune 500 company has to offer? Is it an advantage or a disadvantage?
