Snapchat Launches Its Paid Version

Finally, just like its peers, Snapchat officially launched a paid version of its app, Snapchat+, which promises to offer exclusive features on Wednesday, the 29th of June, 2022.

At $3.99 a month, the new subscription will Launch in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Germany, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, with plans to expand the rollout to other countries.

Snapchat has reportedly been testing out this paid tier for weeks as an offering for its “most passionate members” to generate more revenue.

Although Snapchap+ wouldn’t eliminate the stream of ads seen on Snapchat, users can now change the app icon, see which people have rewatched their stories, pin a friend at the top of their chat window as a “BFF,” and see “the general direction of travel for where friends have moved recently.

However, the feature that allows users to access the recent whereabouts of friends is only available if said friends have already consented to share their location.

According to the company, this subscription will allow them to deliver new Snapchat features to some of the most passionate members of its community and enable the provision of prioritized support.

To sign up for the subscription, you’ll only have to tap Snapchat Plus on your profile and follow the prompts.

In recent times, many social media platforms have opted to offer subscription-based services to earn more revenue. Last year, Twitter launched its Twitter Blue service, a paid version that provides extra features such as the ability to undo tweets in Canada and Australia, and now the United States and New Zealand.

Earlier this month, Telegram also launched a paid premium tier with features like more chat folders and the ability to send larger files (up to 4GB) on the app.

Despite the incredible growth numbers Snapchat had in the first quarter of 2022, the company expressed concerns about hitting its revenue targets because of the war in Ukraine. The company said it would miss its revenue goals for the second quarter of 2022.
