How To Break Into The Tech Industry

A tech career needs commitment, passion, and patience. Mastery will not happen in a day but with constant practice and dedication in your chosen field.

Being a professional in any tech field depends on how much you love the field and want to become an expert. You might have questions like, “Who is a tech bro?”

The term is a gender-neutral term that refers to women and men in tech that take on different roles such as software developer, web developer, UI/UX designer, digital marketer, product manager, technical writer, etc. According to Indeed, “tech jobs make up to 40% of current jobs in demand.”

Since you know what a “tech bro” is, here is what you need to know if you want to start working in tech.

Willingness To Learn

To excel in technology, you must be ready to learn and unlearn at any time, as you will be exposed to various terminologies, systems, and processes.

Take A Course

As much as you don’t need a degree or formal education to work in tech, you still need to learn and become certified in the field. You need to take courses (in your chosen field), whether online or offline, to increase your knowledge.

Currently, there are a lot of courses available online for you to take. Apps like Udemy, Coursera, and Skillshare have such courses available, but you will have to pay to get access and be certified. Apart from these paid courses, there are also some platforms like YouTube where you can access free courses.

Practice

If you have chosen a desired field and learned the basics, it is now time to practice. A rule for practising says, “A person cannot reach the peak of their craft unless they spend 10,000 hours doing it.” You may not even need 10,000 hours, but you still need to invest a lot of time and effort after going through the necessary training because the time invested will make you better.

Internship and Mentorship

Internships and mentoring help you grow in experience because you will learn on the job. You can work in a startup or take volunteer jobs for a large company, and by doing that, you gain real-world experience.

Apply For Jobs

It is now time to put all the knowledge and experience you have gathered to work. Your first job may not be all smooth, but it is a step in the right direction. You can use platforms like Indeed, Glassdoor, and Dice to apply for jobs.

The tech space is big enough for everyone, and it continues to accommodate more professionals. Which path do you want to take among the available tech careers, and why? Let us know your tech path in the comments section below.
