New Buildings in the UK mandated to Install Electric Cars Charging Points

The United Kingdom is set to make electric car charging points a compulsory installation in new homes, buildings, stores, and offices from 2022.

All new homes and workplaces built in England from 2022 will need to have electric vehicle (EV) charging points as standard, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed.

The UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday, 22nd of November during a speech stated that the sales of Electric Vehicles {EVs} in the UK are now increasing at a 70% rate a year.

In 2030 the UK government hopes to end the market sale for diesel and petrol cars in Britain ahead of other European countries. This is in a bid to be part of the green revolution that is taking place.

In estimation, about 145,000 new charging points per year are going to be created under the new legislation which aims to assist in the switch from high-polluting vehicles.

Speaking at the CBI event, Johnson said: “We have to use our massive investment in science and technology and we have to raise our productivity and then we have to get out your way.”

Boris Johnson wants the United Kingdom to steer global efforts to transition to net-zero to assist the economy to live through the pandemic fallout.

Several car manufacturers, like Jaguar and Volvo plan to go all-electric from 2025 and 2030 and Ford has shared that only electric vehicles would be sold in Europe by 2030.

Though, four of the world’s leading carmakers, Volkswagen, Toyota, Renault-Nissan, and Hyundai-Kia didn’t sign a COP 26 summit pledge to only sell zero-emissions cars and vans by 2035.

Furthermore, adding to the announcement on charging points, the Uk government also confirmed that a £10m fund will be released to fund a new hydrogen project at the largest onshore wind farm near Glasgow. This fund is intended to help the Whitelee Green Hydrogen Project develop the Largest electrolyser in the United Kingdom, A system that changes water into hydrogen gas as a way to store energy and supply transport providers with zero-carbon fuel.
