Technology Trends In 2022

The technology space is constantly evolving; humans continually innovate tech solutions to suit our changing environment. Here are some tech trends in 2022

New Energy Solutions

A significant 2022 tech trend is new energy solutions—the desire for sustainable living is provoking the development of new technologies that will address climate change. In 2022, we’ll see increased innovations in the batteries we use in our cars and green hydrogen and nuclear power innovations. These new trends will allow us to generate sustainable energy for the general public.

3D Printing

3D printing, also called additive manufacturing, creates a three-dimensional object layer-by-layer using a computer-created design. In 2022, we will see modifications in manufacturing and customized pieces, concrete for houses, printed food, metal, and composite materials. 3D printing promises a significant change in fabrication, with numerous opportunities to produce designs that would have been prohibitively expensive.

Digital Trust

Blockchain technology, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and distributed ledgers are changing our world. We will continue to experience growth and expansion in this technology space in 2022. These inventions have grown beyond Bitcoin to things like smart contracts that allow us to verify ownership with NFTs. More companies and individuals will enhance physical objects with blockchain technology and tokens this year.

Extended Reality

Extended reality (XR) is a universal term inclusive for immersive learning technologies like virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). In 2022, we will have simple devices that will connect to our phones and give us superior VR experiences on the go.

The growth of extended reality will allow incredible, immersive experiences in the metaverse and a shared virtual world that users can access anytime, anywhere through various devices and platforms.

Big Data and Analytics

The increasing availability of data and high demand for its insights holds the significant prospect for improving many data-driven decisions. All of the digitization today means we have an immense amount of data available. Data has become a crucial business asset in every organization. We can use data better to understand our customers’ needs, research trends, and get critical organizational insight.

Quantum Computing

Quantum computing is a rapidly-emerging technology that harnesses the laws of quantum mechanics to solve problems too complex for classical computers. In 2022, quantum computers will fundamentally change how we approach issues like logistics, portfolio control, and innovations. the processing of this type of information is represented by unique quantum states – enabling machines to handle them in a fundamentally different way from traditional computers

Smarter Devices and Cities (IoT)

Smart devices are electronic gadgets that can connect, share and interact with users and other smart devices. Computer power in recent times is enabling us to create more innovative devices. We now have smart televisions, self-driving cars, and intelligent robots working alongside humans to complete tasks. In 2022, we’ll see continued acceleration for this smart device explosion, including the introduction of intelligent home robots and a surge in smart cities.

More importantly, how is Africa ranking against the rest of the world with these trends? Are our cities even close to becoming smart? Will autonomous cars ever be a thing in Nigeria?
