The CEO of Meta announced earlier this year that NFTs would be coming to Instagram. Digital assets have been a foundational pillar for Meta’s business as the company constantly evolves.
To enable the minting of NFTs in over 100 countries, Meta will partner with cryptocurrency wallet platforms such as Coinbase, Flow Blockchain, and Dapper.
Users will have the ability to post digital collectibles minted on the Ethereum or Flow blockchain. To do this, a user will simply need to connect their wallet to Instagram and make a post. No fees are associated with posting or sharing your digital assets on Instagram.
The interaction update to this NFT collaboration is also exciting, as when you post your NFT on Instagram, it will have a shimmer effect, and it can even display public information such as the description of the NFT, and each post can be tied back to the creator and the collector.
Although all these features are impressive, Instagram will need to make these changes slowly while relying on user and community feedback to build the entire system.
As a sign to show that Instagram’s NFT expansion will soon be launched, the meta CEO celebrated it with the launch of his own NFT, which he posted on Instagram as his 1992 Little League baseball card.
The Meta CEO, in his post, said, “In honor of expanding collectible NFTS to 100 more countries on Instagram and launching new integrations with Coinbase and Dapper, I’m sharing my soon-to-be NFT little league baseball card.”
Just like Mark, very soon, you will also be able to share that throwback picture that you really cherish as an NFT collectible.
Despite this being a significant step forward for meta and Instagram; the question remains: since NFT and web3 are distributive systems, as opposed to Instagram, which is centralized, we hope this launch does not overwhelm the app and pave the way for harm rather than improvement.
