House of the Dragon, the highly anticipated prequel to the popular HBO series Game of Thrones, finally premiered on HBO and HBO Max on August 21st.
The series had a massive viewing of over 10 million users in one night because of the anticipation. Unfortunately for some fans, the wait lasted a little longer as HBO max crashed during the series premiere, leaving thousands of viewers in disappointment and desperation.
HBO Max users took to Twitter on Sunday night to complain about not being able to watch the show because the app crashed on them or froze up immediately after the premiere teaser.
According to an HBO spokesperson, who spoke to address the statement, “House of the Dragon is being successfully viewed by millions of HBO Max subscribers. We are aware that a small portion of users wanting to connect via Fire TV devices are having issues and are in the process of resolving them for those impacted users.”
It was later revealed that not only people wanting to connect using Amazon devices were affected as users streaming with other devices also complained of the same issue.
This crash was due to technical issues that were most likely caused by traffic as many viewers were trying to watch the show simultaneously.
Similar HBO connection crashes have occurred before during the premiere of the final season of Game of Thrones.
The House of Dragon is set 200 years before Game of Thrones and details the battle of succession in the house Targaryen as well as with other houses as they seek to maintain their position on the iron throne, essentially explaining the civil war that crippled House Targaryen and eventually Westeros.
Fans that got to watch the series either during the premiere or after the crash highly praised the prequel.
