Viral Coffin Dance Meme Sold For Over $1m

The Popular Ghanaian Pallbearing meme that went viral during the pandemic was recently sold as an NFT for a whooping sum of $1.046 million (372eth).

The meme is used as dark humor to signify an untimely end when one is indulging in a funny but life-threatening experience.

On April 7, 2022, the Dancing Pallbearers team minted the video meme on the Foundation App and placed it under auction as an NFT.

Foundation App is a platform that aims to build a new creative economy where creators can use the Ethereum blockchain to value their work in new ways and build stronger connections.

After intense bidding for two days, the 10-second meme was sold to 3F Music on April 9, 2022. 3F Music is a Dubai-based recording agency known for purchasing meme-inspired NFTs.

One of the Ghanian pallbearers in the meme video, Benjamin Aidoo spoke about the NFT; he said, “Together with the Ukrainian PR community, we are putting all our global popularity on the NFT auction. Our meme Coffin Dance (Dancing Pallbearers) will be listed on April 7, 2022, in order to help stop death in Ukraine and help the people of Ukraine who are having a hard time.”

Furthermore, the details of the mint indicated that Aidoo intends to donate some of the proceeds of the mint to charity, of which he has already donated $250 thousand to the best Ukrainian defense charity.
