Epic Games Partners With Lego To Create A Metaverse For Kids

Two renowned entertainment firms are coming together to create a metaverse for kids.

Fortnite developer, Epic Games has partnered with the Lego Group to build “an immersive, creative, and engaging digital experience” for kids in the metaverse. The firms aim to develop a safe space for kids of all ages to hone their creator skills and provide play opportunities.

Epic Games mentioned the partnership is based on three essential principles which focus on building a safe and engaging digital space for kids.

  • Protect children’s “right to play” by prioritizing safety on the platform.
  • Protect children’s privacy by prioritizing their best interests.
  • Provide children and their guardians with the right tools to control their digital experience.

Niels B Christiansen, CEO of The LEGO Group, said: “Kids enjoy playing in digital and physical worlds and move seamlessly between the two. We believe there is enormous potential for them to develop life-long skills such as creativity, collaboration, and communication through digital experiences. But we are responsible for making them safe, inspiring, and beneficial for all. Just as we’ve protected children’s rights to safe physical play for generations, we are committed to doing the same for digital play. We look forward to working with Epic Games to shape this exciting and playful future.”

Tim Sweeney, CEO & Founder of Epic Games, said: “The LEGO Group has captivated the imagination of children and adults through creative play for nearly a century, and we are excited to come together to build a space in the metaverse that’s fun, entertaining, and made for kids and families.”

The metaverse is constantly evolving and reshaping how people meet, play, work, learn and interact in a virtual, 3D world. The LEGO Group and Epic Games intend to combine their vast experience to ensure that this next development of the internet is designed from the beginning with the well-being of kids prioritized.
