Trump’s Digital Card Collection Sells Out

Billionaire and former US president Donald Trump announced on the 15th of December that he is releasing an NFT collection to be known as the “Trump digital trading card.”

It will feature images of the former US president in a similar style to baseball cards, costing $99 apiece. He made the announcement via a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, which stated, “MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT. The Trump Digital Trading Card Collection is here. These limited edition cards feature amazing art from my life and career. Collect all of your favourites”, “Pital Trading Cards is very much like a game of rummy, but hopefully much more exciting.”

Trump was able to release 45,000 of the limited NFT collections. The cards were sold on an online store with a variety of cards depicting him in various roles and characters, such as a superhero, an athlete, an astronaut, etc.

The ex-president stated that the collection was his idea of a great Christmas gift, promoting them as the best of gifts for your near and dear ones this festive season.

After his major announcement, his actions got him a lot of criticism and backlash as many conservatives could not understand why he would take that line of action, which came off as a joke since he still has plans to return to the White House in 2024.

Despite all the mockery the digital card collection got when it launched, especially on social media, the digital trading cards sold out in less than a day, netting over 4.5 million dollars in sales.

According to OpenSea, the digital card, which was initially sold for $99 a piece, is now listed at $250, and some of the cards are even worth up to 6 ETH. One of the rarest cards in the collection, where the ex-president is standing as the Statue of Liberty holding a torch, is worth over 20 ETH, reaching a new all-time high for the NFT, which also has tendencies of going higher.

The digital card launch was a huge success for ex-President Donald Trump, and this might encourage him to get more involved in the cryptocurrency world, especially the NFT sector.

What do you think about the success of this launch? Is it beginner’s luck, or will the Trump collection be an NFT hit?
