Is Apple Designing A Touchscreen Macbook?

It seems that Apple is joining the host of touchscreen laptop makers as the giant tech company is designing a touchscreen MacBook Pro.

The touchscreen MacBook may imply a change of idea on how Apple sees touchscreen laptops, as the company had often stated that touchscreen laptops are “ergonomically inferior” compared to laptops with a mouse and keyboard.

In 2018, Apple’s Head of Software, Craig Federigh, stated, “We really feel that the ergonomics of using a Mac are that your hands are rested on a surface and that lifting your arm up to poke a screen is a pretty fatiguing thing to do.”

Also, in 2021, Apple Marketing Executive, Tom Bogey similarly held the idea that iPads are the “best touch computer” and the Mac is “totally optimized for direct input.” Tom further said that Apple had no reason to change its production style and add a touchscreen feature to Mac devices.

Apple Founder; Steve Jobs shared a similar idea; according to him, touch surfaces cause arm fatigue. “Touch surfaces don’t want to be vertical”, said Steve. However, Craig was recently asked whether the company would release a touchscreen laptop, and he indecisively answered, “Who’s to say?”

Although, plans to release a touchscreen Mac may change since Apple is yet to finalize plans for launching, but Apple is expected to release the touchscreen MacBook Pro as early as 2025, Apple tipster Mark Gurman revealed.

If the touchscreen MacBook Pro were designed, the mouse clicks would be replaced with large buttons and software changes to accept finger taps and gestures. Apple may not remove the mouse and keyboard feature from its future touchscreen MacBook laptops.

According to Gurman, Apple plans to connect the software and services on all its devices, since the touchscreen Macbook will provide a better experience for users using multiple Apple products because Apple devices will operate using the same operating system, and also enlarge its market segment through the touchscreen Macbook.

Tech manufacturers can change preferences, tastes and choose anything they may consider convenient but are there other reasons for Apple’s change in its product line?

Is the market competition getting tougher since some laptop manufacturers have added the touchscreen feature to their products, giving them the exact specs some customers may want? Why do you think Apple is considering a touchscreen MacBook at this time?
