SpaceX May Launch A Starship In March

You want to wake up in the morning and think the future is going to be great – and that’s what being a spacefaring civilization is all about. And I can’t’ think of anything more exciting than going out there and being among the stars”, says Elon Musk.

SpaceX is preparing to launch its starship rocket system in March 2023.

In January, there were speculations that the launch would happen January ending, but the tech giant CEO Elon Musk who is also the owner of SpaceX, revealed the progress of the fully reusable starship rocket.

According to him, the launch would be done if the remaining tests are successful after a fueling test carried out in January. For now, the company has a few tests to carry out before launching; the wet dress rehearsal and static fire test.

This spacecraft launch follows after the company’s test flight launched on May 5th, 2021, and now SpaceX plans to fly an astronaut group at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to the moon under the US space agency’s Artemis mission.

The starship is designed as a dual system to transport crew and cargo with the starship spacecraft and the super heavy rocket. The super heavy rocket is constructed to lift the starship to 65km altitude before separating and returning to Earth.

The spacecraft is built with a large capacity to carry up to 100 tonnes of cargo to low Earth orbit, as shown in the table below, also contained in the table are other specifications of the spaceship. SpaceX is set to meet the laid down space safety regulations.

Specifications Parameter
Height 120m/395ft
Diameter 9m/30ft
Mass100 tonnes/220,000lb
Volume 1000m3/35,000ft3
Payload capacity 100 – 200 tonnes (orbit dependent)
Maximum thrust 7,590,000kgf/16,700,000lbf

The space rocket is powered by a raptor engine developed by SpaceX. The Raptor engine uses liquid methane and liquid oxygen because it performs better than other fuel types.

Moreover, the refuel ability of the spacecraft allows it to travel at a higher velocity in orbit.

SpaceX is set to revolutionize and explore space technology, as it assures a sustainable future mission to Earth orbit and beyond. Elon intends to use SpaceX as the vehicle to visit planets outside the Earth with
the ultimate goal to colonize Mars. How possible is it to colonize another planet?
