Apple Watches You More Than You Think

One core interest of tech users is to enjoy privacy in the adventure technology provides. All service providers and tech companies recognize this and make obligations to secure private use and non-interference with third parties.

However, this is only sometimes the case; it would shock you to discover that your Apple smartphone tracks you more than you can imagine.

While the company’s privacy policy states that data collected is used to provide quality products and services, process legal transactions, improve security and prevent fraud, It was discovered that the data received by the tech company is stacked and identified with a fixed ID called a Directory Services Identifier or DSID, which contradicts Apple’s latest privacy policy published on September 12, 2022, that states “none of the collected information identifies you personally”.

The DSID number is tagged with the user’s details containing full name, email address, date of birth and other data. Although Apple says that users have the right to decline data requests, like many tech companies, only limited services can then be enjoyed.

Moreover, the generated DSID number is user-specific; the crux of the matter is that there is no way to stop it since the Apple analytics tool is linked to every Apple device. Even when the device’s “Share iPhone Analytics” is disabled on settings, users’ data can still be shared with the company.

Actions being tracked include Apps and websites visited, ads viewed, actions made with iPhones, places visited and so on. The App Trading Transparency on Apple iOS 16 operating system gives users the opportunity to accept or deny other companies from collecting data on the installation of Apps or websites, but the App Tracking Transparency does not prevent the manufacturing company from harvesting users’ information.

Moreso, data are not collected anonymously. It may cause a spike in reaction among users who are meticulous about personal privacy because Apple promises to safeguard personal data and to collect only those data that are needed, but the newly discovered DSID has raised concerns. However, the question is how safe and secure our digital life is.
