5G In Tanzania

African nations are taking after the Western world in technological advancement as far as the internet is concerned.

African leaders are hopeful that the development and exposure, especially the 5G network coming into the continent, would be utilized in developing African nations. Some analysts have asserted that the 5G network would undoubtedly cause an economic boom for the continent by 2034.

However, despite the common challenge of African nations to strictly maintain the network spectrum, regulation clarity, commercial viability, deployment deadlines, and accessibility to the native African people, Tanzania, Like other African countries, has demonstrated the willingness to embrace the future of the 5G network. It was captioned in a speech delivered by Hon. Nape Nnauye, Minister for Communication and Information Technology.

As the nation embraces the 5G network, Tanzania is ready to enjoy a high internet speed of up to 400Mbps, expecting a quality speed of 1 Gbps once the 5G network is fully implemented.

Hon. Nape, in his words, “I congratulate Vodacom for paving the way for digital transformation in Tanzania, and the government fully supports this breakthrough through its various sector ministries because we know technology has the power to transform lives and help the country achieve SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) targets in areas such as health, agriculture, energy, logistics, and many more. I call on entrepreneurs, businesses, innovators, and ministries to tap into this 5G network and transform this nation.”

The benefit of 5G may not be well understood until one realizes that the 5G network is 10 times faster than its 4G counterpart, suffers very low latency when in use, and has an enlarged capacity to host numerous users simultaneously.

Although other African countries are facing delays in operating the 5G network, promoting this high-speed network in other virgin African nations is not trivial.

The concern is not just the emergence of 5G in Tanzania and in other African nations, but the implementation of the 5G network across the nook and cranny of the African states because it seems that even the 3G network is only available in urban areas leaving hamlets and villages far from the high internet speed experience. Hence, this has raised the question, would the 5G network be accessible to all and sundry?
