Driverless Trains In Copenhagen

Copenhagen, Denmark, is well known for its commitment to a green and sustainable environment.

Its metro system is a huge part of this commitment, with affordable trains that link different parts of the city together. It runs every hour of the day, and what makes it even more exciting is that the trains are driverless.

Copenhagen is referred to as the first carbon-neutral capital because of its affordable and stable metro system. Many citizens don’t use cars and buses to commute. This, in turn, reduces the amount of carbon in the atmosphere.

The Copenhagen metro was established in the 1990s. It was mainly developed to help connect the outskirts of the city to the main city since it was expanding. The first railway lines M1 and M2 were officially opened in 2002. The M3 and M4 lines were completed in 2019.

It is one of the first metros to feature driverless cars that run at a maximum speed of 80km/hr, fully operating on a dynamic headway system that provides trains where and exactly when needed.

With this driverless option, passengers can sit anywhere they like and get a beautiful view of the subway.

I’m sure you are thinking to yourself if a driverless train is safe. Well, even though there are no drivers on the train, a secure control system runs the trains to ensure that everything stays on track and no trains run into the wall.

Also, when any part of the train is malfunctioning, technicians can take it apart and repair parts of it without shutting down the entire train. The train stations are beautifully built and even won an award for architecture in 2005.

The metro is used by more than 60 million people annually, including tourists because a railway line runs directly from the airport to the city center.

It will be a great adventure to try out the metro that has been awarded multiple times as the best metro in the world. So, if you ever find yourself in Denmark, make time to visit the city of Copenhagen and ride the Copenhagen metro.
