ChatGPT Gets Plugin Support

ChatGPT is gaining the capacity for more automated functions. OpenAI announced the release of chatGPT with a range of supported plugins.
The plugin support would give the AI model the technical resources to function more than it was trained to do. It would have more access
to data; hence, the model could relearn and update its knowledge. The functionality plugin allows third-party companies to offer chatbot services to customers.

Web Plugin: Just as systems with webGPT-supported tools such as BlenderBot2, LaMDA2, and GopherCite, enable language models to read web content. ChatGPT will now support automated web searches to get information on unfamiliar or untrained tasks, presenting up-to-date information when required.

Code Interpreter Plugin: There will likely be more tool that receives instruction via programming languages in the future, but for now, this plugin feature sets the pace for chatGPT to gain more capability to read, understand and implement a programming language. According to OpenAI, the code interpreter plugin supports python programming for carrying out functions like uploads, downloads, file format conversion, visualization, mathematical problem-solving capability, and data analysis.

Retrieval Plugin: The retrieval plugin enables the AI model to access and work on local files, giving the model the intelligent ability to function like a personal virtual assistant.

Third-party Plugin: This chatGPT plugin serves as a window for other developers, especially companies, into customer service delivery to interact with customers, providing chatbot services. OpenAI has released the list first set of collaborators who will be incorporating the feature into their customer service, as other companies are on the waitlist; Expedia, FiscalNote, Instacart, KATAK, OpenTable, Klarna, Milo, Slack, Shopify, Speak, Wolfram.

However, there are security concerns about the newly added features that could mislead or defraud users; the AI model could also harvest users’ information. The developer team also discovered a tendency for the AI chatbot model to send spam emails and misuse information. Still, OpenAI is working to create a safe and easy-to-use app.

According to OpenAI, the plugins can serve as “eyes and ears” for language models to interact with the world as it delivers more automated service.
One of the collaborators to explore the use of its third-party plugin, Expedia, stated in a tweet, “With our new AI plugin, a traveler can start a conversion with chatGPT to plan their next trip-complete with access to up-to-date information on the availability and price of flights, hotels, vacation rentals, activities and car rentals across the world.”

ChatGPT plugin spans a range of companies, from flights and travels to local grocery stores and shopping and many more, to improve customer service delivery. What do you think about this innovation? How has your experience using chatGPT?
