These days, working with brands on influencing gigs is not the only way to get paid for creating and sharing content—many social media platforms now reward creators for their hard work with financial incentives.
Instagram is one of the newest addition to the list with its Reels Play Bonuses.
Instagram Reels are short-form, vertical videos set to music and shared to one’s profile that can be up to 60 seconds long. Instagram reels have become a solid alternative to Tiktok as it now lets creators get paid for their videos with Reels Play Bonuses.
Play Bonuses allow you to get paid as high as $10,000 by Instagram after your Reels videos get a particular number of views during a set period.
According to Instagram, “Reels Play bonuses are opportunities for creators to earn money directly from Facebook and Instagram for creating content that their communities love.”
However, there are three conditions to earning Play Bonuses: First, you need at least 1,000 reels views in the last 30 days; Second, you can only earn the Play Bonuses if Instagram’s invited you to join the program and Third, the bonus is currently only applicable in the United States, but Instagram did state that they are looking to expand the program globally in 2022.

After getting invited by Instagram and accepting it, creators have a 30 days mark to get the view goal set and earn the bonus. Also, creators can post as many reels as they want during the month.
The bonus program has been expanded to Facebook reels; although sharing an Instagram reel to Facebook isn’t allowed, creators must create and upload reels directly on Facebook.
Note: Creators must select the ” Reels Play Bonus” option before uploading their reels or get the chance to go back and choose the option within 24 hours of uploading their reels.
Lastly, Instagram Reels users with large followings stand to earn even more.
In addition to getting higher Play Bonuses, some users may be eligible to have ads placed over their Reels videos.
Getting money from ads requires a minimum of 10,000 Instagram followers, about five Reels videos, and 600,000 minutes of viewership in the last sixty days.
Whether you’re qualified to place ads on your reels or want to focus only on Play Bonuses, these are all ways you can earn money with Instagram Reels.
However, when will these opportunities be available in African Countries? Is Nigeria ready for such development? Seeing as paying for Instagram-sponsored ads is not that easy.
