Starlink Is Live In Nigeria

Last year, Starlink got a license to operate in Nigeria and started making plans for operations in the heart of West Africa.

In 2023, the internet service division of Space X decided to begin actualizing its plans for an African takeover with its perceived launch in Nigeria and Kenya. It is exciting to know that from now, the official Starlink network is now live and smoothly operating in Nigeria, making it the first African country to achieve such a milestone.

The Elon Musk-owned company confirmed that Starlink is live via a tweet “Starlink is now available in Nigeria -the first African country to receive service!.”

The starting retail price of the Starlink satellite and other hardware is $600 (about 280,000 Naira). Over 2500 Starlink satellites are orbiting the earth, so the internet service that Starlink offers is expected to be at its best.

Since we know that network excellence will not be an issue. The main question will be, “How many people can afford it?”  The prices will be okay for some people, especially large-scale businesses, but might be high for the average Nigerian and small businesses.

Another great importance of the Starlink launch is that it creates an avenue for technological advancements in the rural parts of Nigeria since the internet connection works perfectly in remote areas. Technology will no longer be in only urban regions but can also touch every path of the nation, creating opportunities and gateways where there were none.

The internet service industry is about to get tighter with the introduction of Starlink, and other service providers will need to step up in order not to lose their customer base to Starlink in the end. As a Nigerian, what do you think about Starlink and the service it has to offer? Is the price attached to this service expensive or affordable? Let us know your opinion in the comments.
