In recent times, People have used NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) as Display Pictures on social media platforms. It makes one wonder about the reason for buying an NFT if someone else can easily take a screenshot and use it on social media.
It appears Twitter has been thinking as well.
Twitter is introducing a new function that will allow users to show off their NFTs; it can certify digital assets stored on the blockchain. The company presents NFT Profile Pictures to Twitter Blue subscribers on iOS through Twitter Blue’s early access Labs feature. For android and web users, it will be introduced later on.
Twitter Blue is a monthly subscription version of Twitter that gives customers exclusive access to premium features and app customizations for a fee.
Although only iOS users can set their NFT as their profile picture, everyone on Twitter can see it, regardless of the platform they are utilizing.
Also, another limitation is that the Twitter Blue subscription service is not globally available, thus limiting the NFT Profile Pictures to the U.S, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
To use the feature, first, you must subscribe to Twitter Blue. You then go to your profile to change your profile picture. There, you’ll be presented with the new option to choose an NFT instead. You then link your crypto wallet to your account. After authentication, you’ll select the NFT you want to use as your profile picture, and you will get a new hexagon-shaped border picture enclosed in a circle.
Currently, only Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, Rainbow, MetaMask, Ledger Live, and Argent Wallets are supported. Furthermore, only PNG and JPEG NFTs minted on the Ethereum Blockchain (ERC-721 or ERC-1155 tokens) can be used as NFT Display Pictures.
Once fully functional, Twitter users who come across NFT Profile pictures can learn more about the art by tapping on the image, its collection, origin, and more. For instance, one would be able to see if OpenSea or another third-party marketplace has verified a project or collection.
The new feature follows Twitter’s increasing interest in integrating decentralized technologies into its platform, which has included things like support for tips in Bitcoin and the recent hire of Tess Rinearson as its Crypto Engineering Lead.
