What Should Drive You Into Tech
Money or Passion?

The tech industry is currently booming, and every day there is a need for a skilled professional that can work in multiple areas of the industry.

Whether you are a creative, a manager, or a financial professional, there is always something available for you in this industry. Not to forget the fact that people working in this industry are some of the top earners in the world. On average, individuals working in tech can earn up to $150,000 per year.

Apart from the salary, working in tech comes with many other advantages. There are a lot of allowances available for vacation, student loans, and childcare. There is also a flexible work-life balance on top of luxurious offices, packed gyms, massage parlors, and cafeterias that serve various meals.

Since big bucks are involved in the tech industry, many individuals get into it with no passion whatsoever for it, and others venture into it because of their love for technology.

As we all know, the economy is terrible, and in places like Nigeria, where the employment rate is really low, many individuals, especially graduates, have looked for a way to get a meaningful job out of this condition, hence making them move into tech most of the time without considering the intense work, dedication, and discipline needed to survive and thrive in the tech world.

The tech world is constantly evolving, so its employees must strive to improve every day or become irrelevant over time. Because tech companies are driven by efficiency, if an employer seems to have lost their passion and drive, they become irrelevant to the company and are most often laid off and replaced with a more driven personality.

There are trends in the lives of tech workers and the perks associated with working there, which have been one of the reasons why many people want to go into tech. Still, these trends do not always explain the real-life work struggles that are encountered in these jobs.

A survey showed that over 57% of tech employees admit to work burnout, which pushes many of them to quit because of how demanding the job can be, even with the numerous financial benefits involved.

This simply shows where passion comes in. It gives you the drive to continue whenever you feel stagnant and unmotivated. Passion gives a sense of purpose and vision, and anyone who still loves their job, apart from its financial benefits, can be said to be passionate about it.

It is good to remember that the tech industry is not one-sided but welcomes people from diverse identities and is a great career path for anyone wishing to walk it, but before you begin that path, you must ask yourself, “Am I in it for the money or do I actually love this job?”

Answering this question honestly will determine how far you go in that career, happy and content because there is only a level of happiness money can give you in a tech job.
