Nigeria Enhanced E-Passport Launches in America

On Tuesday, the 5th of July, 2022, the Nigeria Federal Government launched the new “Enhanced e-Passport” at the Embassy of Nigeria in Washington, DC. The Honorable Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, was there in person for the launch. Alhaji Isah Jere Idris, Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service and her Excellency Dr. (Mrs.) Uzoma Emenike, the Ambassador to United State, were in attendance. Both the Consulate-General of New York and Atlanta were also in the building; Ambassador Lot Egopija and Ambassador Amina A. Smaila respectively.

You will need your National Identification Number (NIN) in order to secure this new passport.

Honorable Minister Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola stated that “this new enhanced e-Passport is the first of it’s kind on Africa and fifth in the world.” He also said that anyone can track their application status online.

  1. 32-Page, Five-year (5 years) Validity
  2. 64-Page, Five-year (5 years) Validity
  3. 64-Page, Ten-year (10 years) Validity – For only 18 years and older

Applicants are required to complete and print online application forms as well as to print the Acknowledge Slip and Receipt after making payment. The online application form can be accessed at https://portal.immigration.gov.ng.
