Twitter has decided to reinstate the accounts of former US President and entertainment tycoon Ye after the new CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk, held an online poll in which more than 14 million Twitter users voted, with 51.8% voting in favor of the former President coming back to Twitter and also deciding solely to bring back YE.
Weeks ago, Elon Musk announced that he was creating a special council to help decide which suspended individuals have a chance to be reinstated on the platform, but he finally decided to take matters into his own hands and take a poll on Twitter to decide if former president Donald Trump should return to Twitter.
Donald Trump made it clear that he will stand by his company, Truth Social, and will not return to a company that chased him out a few months ago.
Twitter’s former management suspended the former US president days after the January 6 capitol insurrection. Ye came online and immediately tweeted “Shalom,” not minding that statements like this initially got him suspended from the platform.
Over the past few weeks, more people have left Twitter, both as users and as employees, as there seems to be no regulation on the platform, as full-length movies can now be posted as threads without being taken down, which was unlikely before Musk’s takeover.
A lot of top companies and brands, such as Balenciaga, Audi, Volkswagen, etc., have decided to suspend advertisements on the platform, as they all want to be able to trust the company that they are advertising on, and the fact is that in recent times Twitter has lost that trust.
It seems more evident that Musk is solely making decisions for the company and does not have a plan, which is unlikely for the CEO of a social media giant to do. As we all know, he can decide to change his mind frequently, thereby putting the company in a constant state of uncertainty, which makes us wonder: Did he buy Twitter to grow it or hurt it?
The reinstatement seems to sit well with Ye, but not so much with Donald Trump, as he wants to focus on his own social media platform (Truth Social). Ye has announced his intentions to buy the social media platform Parler.
Since these public figures have been on a mission to grow their platforms to compete with Twitter, do you think the decision was taken in a rush to kill Twitter’s competitors? Also, do you believe this reinstatement is enough to bring peace to the Twitter realm?
