Since the introduction of chatGPT in November of last year, the AI product has continued to grow its user base. A higher user base is expected as OpenAI adds plugins<\/a> for more automated functions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Italian watchdog bans ChatGPT over data protection concerns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Italian agency, also known as Garante, has restricted the collection and use of personal data by the chatbot in the country. According to Garante, chatGPT fails to check the age of 13 years or above\u2014emphasizing that the AI model lacks the legal basis for the mass collection of users\u2019 data and storage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

OpenAI has 20 days to respond with practical and transparent action steps or face a fine of \u00a320 million ($21.68 million).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a quote, OpenAI said, \u201cWe actively work to reduce personal data in training our AI systems like chatGPT because we want our AI to learn about the world, not about private individuals.\u201d The company further stated that it had disabled the country\u2019s access following the privacy issues raised by Garante. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the growing use of intelligent apps in Africa and across the globe, experts in different fields have warned that the AI bot could threaten exercising natural intelligence, creativity, security, personal privacy, and data protection. The government needs to pass a new rule to guide the use of AI chatbots. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before now, there have been comments that OpenAI did not give any clear information on how users\u2019 data help to train chatGPT. TikTok suffered a similar issue when governments sequentially banned the use of the app on official devices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tech experts have also stated that chatbot technology would revolutionize jobs and the workforce in Nigeria. If privacy and security concerns is not addressed, it could lead to more bans from governments. What will be the future of chatbots?
