{"id":2922,"date":"2022-02-22T18:27:18","date_gmt":"2022-02-22T18:27:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gospeedhub.com\/?p=2922"},"modified":"2022-02-23T07:41:46","modified_gmt":"2022-02-23T07:41:46","slug":"1-7million-nfts-stolen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gospeedhub.com\/blogs\/1-7million-nfts-stolen\/","title":{"rendered":"NFTs Worth $1.7 Million Stolen From OpenSea Customers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OpenSea, one of the largest NFT marketplaces on the internet, was attacked by hackers on Saturday, <strong>19th February<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Friday,&nbsp;<strong>18th February<\/strong>, OpenSea launched a new smart contract. A malicious player immediately copied and re-sent OpenSea&#8217;s broadcasted email notifying users. Those who opened the copycat email were directed to a copycat webpage. There, they were prompted to sign a seemingly legitimate transaction that, allegedly, would move their NFTs from the old to the new contract.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, clicking &#8220;Sign&#8221; triggered a function called &#8220;atomicMatch_.&#8221; which stole their NFTs in one transaction.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On <strong>20th February<\/strong>, several OpenSea users noticed their NFTs were missing. (NFTs are digital tokens stored on the blockchain that represent ownership over virtual assets, such as digital drawings or music)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About an hour after the NFTs went missing, OpenSea tweeted that the phenomenon appeared <em>&#8220;to be a phishing attack originating outside of OpenSea&#8217;s website.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We are actively investigating rumors of an exploit associated with OpenSea related smart contracts. This appears to be a phishing attack originating outside of OpenSea&#39;s website. Do not click links outside of <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3qvMZjxmDB\">https:\/\/t.co\/3qvMZjxmDB<\/a>.<\/p>&mdash; OpenSea (@opensea) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/opensea\/status\/1495211277097996290?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 20, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phishing is the act of sending fraudulent emails purporting to be from reputable organizations in a bid to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At first, OpenSea&#8217;s CEO Devin Finzer reported that 32 OpenSea users had fallen victim to the ruse, and that figure turned out to be overshot. On Monday 21st February, he clarified that the&nbsp;<em>&#8220;original count included anyone who had *interacted* with the attacker, rather than those who were victims of the phishing attack.&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">1) We\u2019ve narrowed down the list of impacted individuals to 17, rather than the previously mentioned 32.
