Andela Acquires Tech Startup Qualified

Andela has acquired 100% shares of Qualified for an undisclosed amount. Both companies have confirmed the takeover via a blog post on their platforms.

Andela is a global marketplace where clients can locate specialized tech professionals and technologists can find meaningful work. The company has a wide reach all over the world, supporting tech communities in over 90 nations, especially in Africa, where it was a pioneer of early African software developer expansion, launching development in Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, etc.

Qualified is an online platform launched in 2015 that offers a developer-friendly method for efficiently evaluating technical skills and expertly assessing talent. The company has renowned clients such as Facebook, Zoom, and Domino’s. Qualified prides itself on being the most efficient platform in the world for evaluating software professionals.

This is Andela’s first publicly disclosed acquisition, which follows Andela’s renewed emphasis on developing senior software engineers and technical talents. Andela claims that the acquisition will assist it in finding, evaluating, and certifying talented engineers.

The co-founder of Qualified, Jack Hoofner, stated this about the takeover by Andela: “All of us at Qualified are thrilled to announce that we have joined forces with one of the largest global talent marketplaces, Andela. Andela’s mission of connecting brilliant minds with opportunity becomes even more powerful today by establishing a global standard for technical and quality talents with Qualified’s industry-leading technical assessment platform.”

The CEO of Qualified understands that this takeover will cause both companies to join forces in providing the best platform for technical networking and assessment. “We (Qualified) plan on developing this work and expanding upon it with the support of Andela to create the strongest role assessment, skill certification, and vetting processes in the market.” He says.

Andela’s acquisition of Qualified will bring more growth and development to the company, as now recruiting companies will not only network with technical experts and engineers but can also check the job performance of engineers even before they are hired.

Another positive to the acquisition is that it has allowed Andela to help connect more than 3.6 million engineering users from Codewars, which is a Qualified-powered online community where technical talents compete and develop their practical coding abilities in gamified challenges. Andela’s worldwide talent network will also grow.

Tech experts searching for a platform to network and gain employment can look to Andela for those opportunities. Do you think this Qualified takeover was a good move by Andela? Share your opinion in the comments.
